The Friends of the Jefferson Public Library will host a program, “The Ties That Bind: A Celebration of Aprons,” on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9 to 11 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 801 West Lincoln Way in Jefferson. There will be activities for all ages to enjoy at this free program.
Do you remember your grandmother wearing an apron? Join us as we learn about aprons and the men and women who wore them. Janet Cummings will begin our program by showing her grandmother’s aprons and giving a short presentation about aprons.
Special entertainment will be provided by “The Coon Sisters,” otherwise known as Gina Harrington, Teresa Shahan, Marianne Carlson, and Denise Harberts.
All participants are invited to bring an apron to show, share a story about it, or model it in our “Apron Fashion Show”.
Children will create a unique apron with help from a parent or grandparent. Each child will have an apron to take home and a special memory of the time spent together learning about aprons.
Enjoy a display of vintage and contemporary aprons from the collections of Cummings and Suzanne Sievers, and an apron quilt made by Cummings
Library staff thanks Cummings and the Stitch for donating door prizes for this event, and Carlson for providing the refreshments. The Friends of the Library are sponsors of this event.
All are invited to spend Saturday morning laughing, learning, reminiscing and celebratint aprons. Call the library at 515-386-2835 for more information.
